Following my work on Darren Aronovsky’s film Black Swan, I created a “suite” from the film’s score, remixing some of the themes from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, which I had been tasked with performing on set in some cases hundreds of times. These melodies, turned ear-worms, needed a way out. I sought to exorcize them from my mind, and so I began writing Swan Remix which I then later premiered with the String Orchestra of the Rockies. A few years afterwards, I created an arrangement for violin and piano, which I recorded with pianist Robert Koenig for First Loves, and which was released in 2015.

The violin and piano version of Swan Remix was used in the 2022 film, Salute (Wo xin wo xing), a tribute to dancer Martha Graham, directed by Hung-i Yao.
